Séminaire IP2I: GLIMPSE: Graphene-based Light Invisible Matter Particle SEarch
25 May 2023 @ 14 h 00 min - 16 h 00 min

SĂ©minaire rĂ©alisĂ© par Jong-Chul Park – Associate Professor – Chungnam National University (CNU)
We introduce a new dark-matter direct-detection strategy, GLIMPSE, that will enable the search of keV-range super-light dark matter, adopting a graphene-based Josephson-junction (GJJ) device. It has been recently demonstrated in the laboratory that the GJJ device can have sensitivity to sub-meV energy deposits. We investigate detection prospects with pg-, ng-, and μg-scale detectors by calculating the scattering rate between dark matter and the  π-bond (free) electrons confined in two-dimensional graphene. Due to the constrained scattering feature, we find that the expected signal rate will show dark-matter incident direction dependence, which can be thus utilized for in situ validation of observed signals. Finally, the status of GLIMPSE will be discussed.
IP2I seminars are open to all UCBL and CNRS students and collaborators.
