The 21st century has witnessed the development and widespread circulation of new astronomical and planetological images. The production of these new scientific images of the cosmos—overcoming the limits of direct visual observation—has been the subject of numerous studies, which also emphasize their embeddedness in visual culture and art history. To study the evolution of this iconography, an interdisciplinary committee bringing together Leïla Haegel (physicist), Julie Kolovou and Anastasia Rostan (researchers in film studies), and Chiara Santini Parducci (contemporary art curator) met to organize a multidisciplinary series including study days as well as a contemporary art exhibition. These exchanges have been compiled in the book L’univers à l’écran au XXIe siècle: Une rencontre entre arts et sciences, published by the Presses Universitaires de Provence.
