From October 6 to 8, 2025, a scientific workshop entitled “Exploring Water and Energy Challenges in Kenya: A Call for Collaborative Research Between Kenya and France” was organized in Mtito Andei (Kenya). This event was part of the ongoing Franco-Kenyan WATCH (Water Assessment using Muon Tomography in the Chyulu Hills) project, funded by the CNRS, which aims to improve our understanding of water resources in the Chyulu Hills by combining continuous muon measurements with geophysical, hydrological, and geographical approaches. The workshop brought together French partners (IP2I, LPNHE, EVS, Chrono-Evironnement, GĂ©osciences Montpellier) and Kenyan universities and institutes (RCGW, University of Nairobi, TUK, and DeKUT) for presentations, discussions, and a field trip. Common scientific issues and objectives have been identified for a joint project to be submitted to future international calls, addressing water-related issues in the context of climate change and strong pressure on natural resources. On the afternoon of October 8, the workshop’s conclusions were presented during a feedback meeting at the University of Nairobi, attended by representatives from the CNRS, the French Embassy in Kenya, IFRA, AFD, and Kenyan academic leaders. This session emphasized the scientific and strategic significance of this research for both countries.
