The Astrophysical Journal Letters published the paper detailing the first observation of gravitational waves from coalescences of a neutron star with a black hole on June 29, 2021.
Two such events were recorded by the LIGO and Virgo detectors in 2020, during the O3b data take.
In addition to the participation of the LMA and IP2I in the construction, commissioning and data collection of these detectors, the IP2I group has actively participated in these detections with its MBTA analysis.
The study of these events allows researchers to start constraining the properties and formation mechanisms of this type of binary systems.
